Names Are Forever, Even After Death

Your name will be on your tombstone. It is the index of your history. A person’s name is an important thing. It can help you or it can hurt you.

Your #1 Goal: You want everybody to be able to call you by name.

To do this you have to be able to remember a name. It is almost impossible to do this if you cannot spell or pronounce the name.

Sometimes I think people do a better job of naming their dogs and cats than they do their own children. For whatever reason, some parents seem compelled to think that this is the one thing in their lives upon which they need to be creative.

Names should be chosen based on what is best for the child, not to satisfy some whim of the parents. Names are very important. Over the course of a lifetime, needing to explain your name to everyone you interact with is a waste of time.

Remember, all names should be able to be:

Spelled by all

Pronounced by all

Remembered by all

Be smart and be kind when naming your child.
